All "end users" (i.e. retail sales) must have proper EPA technician certification on file (fax in copy of card) in order to purchase R-406A/Autofrost. Part 608 "stationary" certifications (Type I, Type II or "Universal") or mobile MVAC (part 609) certifications are allowed to purchase R-406A (after 11/15/96 for Mobile). At this time, GHG-X8/Cooltop TM does not require EPA technician certification to purchase, but might need one in the future if R-134a is change to require it.

GHG-X4 (AutoFrost-X4), R-406A/Autofrost/GHG-X3, and GHG-HP are
finished in the EPA SNAP review process and are listed as
"acceptable" (with use restrictions, such as unique
fittings, barrier hoses, etc) for automotive use, in the 10/16/96
Federal Register.
To purchase these refrigerants, you need EPA part 608 (stationary) or EPA part 609 (cars) technician certification. The part 609 is real easy. Taking the test is a "SNAP". It may be taken online at http://www.epatest.com for about $19.95 on a credit card. You even get to print out an instant certificate on your own printer. Now, you can even take your 608 - Type I (small appliances) certification exam online there for $14.95. They have online study guides for free.
